City travel to Germany tonight to play Hoffenheim, who drew 2-2 in their group opener against Shakhtar Donetsk. Despite being the favourites to qualify from the group, the City manager warned his side to expect some difficult moments in this season’s Champions League.

“Maybe we need to live a [difficult] moment in the competition,” Guardiola told The Guardian. “The last two seasons when I’m here we qualified quite comfortably. Maybe you have to suffer in the group stage to realise and make a step forward.

“We have five finals to qualify, [there is] not time to lose a lot of games and we’ve lost the first one. We know the situation we are in. Five finals and this is the first one. Except Real Madrid, in the last three years nobody wins it [more than once] – it’s so tough [but] in the last five or six years we’ve made a step forward.”

Vincent Kompany agreed that it will be tough but the skipper is aiming to lead City to success in Europe.

He told BT Sport: “It’s the last step we haven’t achieved yet and the club is always aiming to progress. I’d love to win a European trophy with City but it’s such a tough competition to win. We’ve got to deal with the fact we lost to Lyon. We’ll worry about Hoffenheim first and if we get momentum anything is possible.”

In tonight’s other group F match Lyon are at home to Shakhtar Donetsk (8pm kick-off, live on BT Sport Extra 3).

Hoffenheim vs. Man City team news

The Manchester Evening News reports that the Premier League champions will be without Benjamin Mendy and Fabian Delph for the crucial clash in Germany. Oleksandr Zinchenko has deputised at left-back but Danilo could also be an option.

Despite playing with a foot injury in recent matches striker Sergio Aguero has travelled. Guardiola will decide if Aguero or Gabriel Jesus start the match.

Playmaker Kevin de Bruyne has returned to training, the BBC reports, but the Belgian will not play tonight.

Hoffenheim captain Kevin Vogt is expected to miss the match because of a thigh injury while defenders Ermin Bicakcic and Havard Nordtveit could also miss out.

Boss Julian Nagelsmann also has injury worries over Lukas Rupp, Dennis Geiger, Nadiem Amiri, Benjamin Hubner, Kerem Demirbay and Kasim Adams.

Juventus vs Young Boys Live

Juventus returns home for the Champions League group stage’s second matchday, aiming to build off the opening win at Valencia. The Italian giants take on Swiss club Young Boys, who lost to Manchester United in their opener. Juve will be without the services of Cristiano Ronaldo who is serving a one-game suspension.

Juventus will head into Tuesday’s Champions League meeting against Young Boys in search of a ninth successive win in all competitions, fresh from completing a victory after finding themselves 1-0 down to Napoli in Serie A.

Young Boys have registered nine wins in their opening nine games in the Swiss Super League, though they were defeated 3-0 by Manchester United in their opening European clash.

Juventus and Young Boys meet at Juventus Stadium, in a match for this stage of the UEFA Champions League (Group Stage). These two teams have never met before, so this will be the first head‑to‑head between them.

Juventus’ first home fixture of the 2018/19 Champions League against Swiss champions, BSC Young Boys, is fast approaching with the match scheduled at Allianz Stadium on 2 October at the earlier kick-off time of 18.55 CEST.

Juventus go into Tuesday’s Champions League group stage match against Young Boys looking for a ninth consecutive win in all competitions this season, having come from 1-0 down to blow away title rivals Napoli on Saturday evening.

Their Swiss opponents have nine wins from nine games in the Super League, but fell 3-0 at home to Manchester United a fortnight ago to leave them staring down the barrel of an early exit from Europe’s top competition.

Manchester United finished the 2017-18 season without any silverware but there were definite improvements under Jose Mourinho. United finished second in the league behind Manchester City and they lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup final. However pressure will be on Jose Mourinho to finally deliver one of the big trophies in his third season as United hunt for Premier League or Champions League glory in 2018-19 season.

United have already done their transfer business with Fred and Diogo Dalot while Alexis Sanchez was signed back in January 2018. We can expect another big name transfer before the transfer window closes on 09 August 2018 with either Gareth Bale or Ivan Perisic linked heavily to United.

Man City vs Hoffenheim

Manchester City are on the road in the Champions League tonight as they attempt to register their first win of the season in the competition.

A disappointing defeat to Lyon at the Etihad a fortnight ago put City bottom of Group F, but a win at Hoffenheim would put Pep Guardiola’s men back on track.

City travel to Germany boosted by the inclusion of Sergio Aguero, who had been a doubt after Guardiola revealed he was playing with a foot injury for the past few fixtures. Kevin De Bruyne has returned to training, but was never expected to be involved so soon after his knee injury that he picked up at the beginning of the season.

First-choice left-back Benjamin Mendy and back-up Fabian Delph are out, so Oleksandr Zinchenko will continue to fill in.

With Sergio Aguero’s inclusion, City have taken a strong squad to Germany.

The Red Devils are winless in their last three matches across all competitions, including a 3-1 defeat against West Ham United during the weekend. Los Che finally halted their four-match winless streak against Real Sociedad but looked far from convincing in the 1-0 triumph.

Per OddsShark, United are the 3-5 favourites, while Valencia come in at 22-5. A draw sports odds of 31-10.

British fans will be able to watch the match via BT Sport 2 and the BT Sport app, while American viewers can tune in via B/R Live. Kick-off will be at 8 p.m. BST/3 p.m. ET.

When the draw for the Champions League was announced, this fixture was earmarked as perhaps one of the most intriguing of the group stages that would set the tone in Group H.

High-flying Valencia were expected to be an exciting attacking challenger to the giants of the group, Juventus and Manchester United. The fixture still holds plenty of intrigue, but not for the reasons we all expected.

Juventus have held up their end of the deal, but United and Valencia have both struggled. The two seem set to fight it out for second place, but Los Che don’t look like the tough challengers they were expected to be at this stage.

The Red Devils sit in 10th place in the Premier League standings and already chase rivals Manchester City and Liverpool by nine points. The loss against the Hammers was an embarrassing one and raised even more questions about manager Jose Mourinho and his odd team selections.

Valencia were supposed to be an attacking juggernaut after a summer in which they retained the services of both striker Rodrigo and winger Goncalo Guedes, who turned his loan to the Mestalla into a permanent switch.

But prior to the win over La Real, Los Che had scored just once in their last four matches across all competitions, including the 2-0 loss against Juventus. The Bianconeri played the bulk of the match with 10 men and still handled Valencia rather easily.

Their attacking issues should give United the confidence to attack with numbers, but the Red Devils refused to do so even against lowly West Ham. If Mourinho opts to employ defensive tactics yet again, he could invite all kinds of trouble from a talented but inconsistent group of forwards.

CSKA Moscow vs Real Madrid

CSKA Moscow vs Real Madrid: Real Madrid travel to Russia on Tuesday to face CSKA Moscow at the VEB Arena, with Julen Lopetegui’s men hoping to increase their two-point lead at the top of UEFA Champions League Group G.

CSKA Moscow vs Real Madrid Live

Los Blancos thrashed AS Roma 3-0 in the first match of their Champions League title defence, while CSKA showed grit to come back from two goals down and snatch a 2-2 draw at Viktoria Plzen.

Real are big favourites to take maximum points and move one step closer to sealing first place in Group G, but a trip to Moscow in October is a difficult proposition for any outfit.

Many questions at the start of Real’s season turned to how Real would fare in the Champions League without Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been the competition’s top scorer for the last six seasons in succession.

Gareth Bale, Isco and Mariano Diaz scored the goals against Roma a fortnight ago to show they’ll help fill the void, although AFP’s Tom Allnutt reported neither Bale nor Isco will be present for the trip to Moscow:

The absence of captain and star centre-back Sergio Ramos will be a sore miss at the other end, which means Lopetegui could name a centre-back pairing of Raphael Varane and Nacho. Alternatively, Nacho could be retained at left-back while Jesus Vallejo comes into central defence.

Many Real fans will also be hoping this is the first opportunity to see summer arrival Vinicius Junior in Champions League action, and the 18-year-old was happy to celebrate his inclusion on the flight to Moscow:

CSKA sit third in the Russian Premier League and are six points off leaders Zenit St. Petersburg, while Real are level on points at the head of La Liga after going their last two league games without a win.

Los Merengues face a fine balancing act in rotating their squad between league and cup commitments, and Lopetegui said after Saturday’s 0-0 draw with rivals Atletico that the domestic race is tightening, via Omnisport:

Real could run the risk of seeing their European dominance of recent years slip away if they don’t take the competition’s early stages seriously enough, and CSKA will be all too happy to stage a surprise.

One area in which journalist Dermot Corrigan doesn’t believe Lopetegui should do so at all, however, is between the posts:

Thibaut Courtois has started performing more comfortably in Real’s goal after a somewhat shaky start, but last season’s No. 1, Keylor Navas, kept a clean sheet in the previous Champions League win over Roma.

CSKA are unbeaten in their last eight games and have won four of those, but Real could put an end to that unbeaten streak as the European title-holders seek a third consecutive Champions League win in Moscow.

Chiefs vs Broncos

Chiefs vs Broncos :Week 4 of the 2018 NFL season has been wildly exciting. We’ve seen a ton of points scored around the league already this week, and Patrick Mahomes and the high-flying Kansas City Chiefs haven’t even played yet.

Chiefs vs Broncos Live

Mahomes and company are set to take on the division rival Denver Broncos on Monday night, in a game that promises to feature passes flying all over the field. Mahomes has 13 touchdown passes through the first three weeks of the season — an NFL record. He has made repeated connections with Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Sammy Watkins, and the Chiefs just keep denting scoreboards even while running back Kareem Hunt has struggled to really get going. That dynamite offense has pushed the Chiefs to a 3-0 start and a perch atop the AFC West.

The Broncos, meanwhile, are 2-1 and sitting just behind the Chiefs in the division race. Case Keenum has struggled under center but the Denver running game has been electric behind a pair of rookies — Royce Freeman and Phillip Lindsay — and both the Von Miller-led pass rush and the Bronco run defense have started the season off on a strong note.

When these two teams get together, things usually get pretty interesting. Will that trend continue on Monday night? Follow along with us as we live blog the festivities to find out.
